VWAP explained: using the session mean in intraday analysis

Understand volume-weighted average price, session context and practical VWAP workflows for NIFTY, BANKNIFTY and intraday stocks.

VWAP is a session reference

VWAP weights traded prices by volume to estimate the average price paid during a session. Intraday traders often use it as a context line rather than a standalone buy or sell trigger.

The session definition matters. Check the exchange, trading hours and reset behavior before comparing VWAP values across instruments or platforms.

Combine VWAP with structure

Price holding above a rising VWAP can describe positive intraday context, but it does not remove the need to read support, resistance, volatility and the time of day.

On charting, save a VWAP layout for the instruments and timeframes you trade, then compare the same process across NIFTY, BANKNIFTY and liquid stocks.
